You will notice that at some point of time in their growth – babies simply hate lying flat. At least that is what happened with us – it would take an hour for us to rock the baby and as soon as we lay him gently, he would scream in 2 minutes as he discovered that he was on his back. This is the stage when we discovered baby swings – which serves two purposes
- Helps the baby relax when he is awake as the rocking motion keeps him entertained.
- Also helps sleep during daytime – so that even if he wakes up he can see that everybody is around and he is safe.
There are a few which would satisfy most parents and I will lay them out for you,
- Fisher Price– These are available in a variety of themes like Fisher Price My Little Snugapuppy Cradle and Swing to the Fisher-Price Deluxe Cradle ‘n Swing, Rainforest Friends but you cannot go wrong with any of them. It has 6 different settings – and can swing from side to side or front to back. The legs fold up and it also includes an adaptor. It has a lot of features and is pretty reliable. The variety of sounds available was awesome as was the ability to rotate or recline the seats. The seats were quite comfortable and the cover was easy to machine wash. It is indeed a very soothing contraption and my kiddos spent hours on them every day – quite invaluable for me indeed. The setup was easy too although I have to admit it takes up a lot of space.
- Graco Duetsoothe Swing + Rocker, Sapphire – This is another great option which I recently discovered at a friend’s place. It is one step ahead of the Fisher Price Model in that the swing seat can be dismounted and placed on the ground to serve as a rocker. Soothing vibration feature is another added benefit which Fisher Price does not have.
The one thing that annoyed lot of parents was that there is no single button to shut the whole thing off – a feature that is invaluable once you have been subject to the music for hours. As you will discover – the rocker basically is useful for much longer than the swing and having this versatility is a big plus. The Graco Simple Sway Swing is a much cheaper swing which I would not recommend for features – but is a value option for half the price of these other swings.
- 4 Moms Mamaro Classic
This is a unique design and obviously much more expensive – claiming to mimic mom’s natural movements – up and down and swaying side to side. The system is very quiet and is available in multiple colors. Very easy to use and has a much smaller footprint that the regular swings. It has some features that you would not find on any other swing – such as the ability to play your own music by connecting your device(phone of ipod) and the ability to remote control the swing through an app. The 3 point hardness feels somewhat inadequate but this one is a stylish, sleek machine that will not look like a unwholesome pile of metal and plastic – as many others do.
Select from five unique motions, like car ride and tree swing, and five different speeds. Choose from four built-in sounds or connect it to any MP3 player. The seat reclines to multiple positions to allow baby to lie back and relax or sit up and play. The mamaRoo is now Bluetooth enabled so you can control the motion, sound, speed and volume from your compatible smart device.
I would choose the plush option as they are more comfortable.
This is very useful for kids with acid reflux as it allows the kids to sit up a little more straighter. But overall I have seen these and heard from my friends as well. I would still go with the Fisher price – many of teh cool features don’t seem as necessary when you are busy and all you want is a swing that will move, play music and entertain the kid without you having to operate each one of these yourselves.
Space Saver Options
The fact is that these swings do take up a lot of space and for many people living in apartments in cities – this will make things very difficult. There are a couple of space save swings that I can recommend, having most of the functionality of the otehr swings but taking up much lesser space.
